1. How do you value project management certifications compared to the actual project experiences acquired by professionals?
Answer: Project Management Certifications provide the knowledge of tools and techniques essential for successful execution of the projects. However, a lot depends on the attitude and the knowledge of the project manager, his team and even the stake holders. This may not be so much influenced by Certifications. The knowledge gets influenced by experience.
2. How effective the Critical Chain Management is to rescue projects or save projects from failure?
Answer: Critical Chain Project Management, to be fully effective, has to start at the initiation or latest by scheduling stage. It may be too late if the projects run traditionally are in trouble. However, the position will vary from project to project.
3. The kind of projects you handled while working as the Director in RITES, did you employ professional project management practices?
Answer: I was Director Projects RITES till June 1993. We adopted CPM to some extent, but the network was made manually, and it was almost impossible to keep track with base line schedules. We were not using software.
4. Why do you think it is necessary to add to the techniques of Critical Chain Project Management System in PMBOK when PMBOK elaborately covers Project Management?
Answer: Critical Chain Project Management is able to take care of uncertainties inherent in any project execution to a much better degree.
5. How can the Traditional Project Management methodologies be improved to provide managers with flexibility as well as standardization in the processes?
Answer: Of course, there are techniques available in Traditional Project Management methodology to execute projects successfully. Unfortunately, more often than not, these are not used. Critical Chain Project Methodology is one of the better one – probably the best.
6. How can project managers be empowered to contribute to the organization’s strategic goals?
Answer: Goals, if these have not to degenerate into dreams, need execution of small and big projects, both formal and informal. Proper project execution is, therefore, of utmost importance. Project Managers’ role is, therefore, obvious.
